CMS issues training on emergency preparedness rule

CMS recently released an online training course for state survey agencies regarding emergency preparedness rule and enforcement. The course was designed to help general health and Life Safety Code (LSC) surveyors gain proficiency in surveying all affected providers for compliance with the rule.

The final rule on Emergency Preparedness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers was published on Sept. 16, 2016. This rule affects all 17 provider and supplier types eligible for participation in Medicare. The rule became effective on Nov. 15, 2016 and will be implemented on Nov. 15, 2017.
