An auction lot of mostly non-medical equipment is up for bid Wednesday evening courtesy of a Hoven hospital that closed in 2010.

Holy Infant Hospital, which opened in 1943, closed in 2010. The building found new life in 2014 after fire destroyed Hoven’s junior and senior high schools, as officials in the northeast South Dakota town decided to use the vacant hospital building as a temporary school.

With the new Hoven High School opening last fall, the hospital is set for a July demolition.

Items up for bid in Lot A, Lot B and Lot C include:

  • Office Equipment: Filing cabinets, book shelves, paper shredder, office desks and teacher desks (antique oak), air conditioners, fans, tables, copy machine, etc.
  • General Items: Removable cabinets with stainless steel sinks, removable closets, beds, chairs, ceiling flood lights, doors, fire doors, refrigerators – small and regular size.
  • Miscellaneous Items: Light bulbs, light fixtures, doors, tool cabinets, hand tools and more.

Attendees will need bid numbers to make offers. Bids will be accepted between 6-8 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and remain open until 10:30 p.m. to facilitate removal of purchases. Attendees should enter through the ambulance doors on east side of building.

This is also the last opportunity to tour the old hospital building before demolition begins in July.

Questions should be directed to members of the Hoven Area Health Care board.
