Senate confirms Verma as CMS administrator

The U.S. Senate on Monday confirmed Seema Verma to lead the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Verma, a health policy consultant who founded SVC Inc. and serves as its president and CEO, was approved as CMS administrator on a 55-43 vote.

Verma crafted Vice President Mike Pence’s signature health-care plan when he served as governor of Indiana. The plan is a Medicaid program that requires monthly contributions to health savings accounts.
