The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has formalized the requirements for review of access to care for Medicaid recipients. The new requirements at 42 CFR 447.203 require states to analyze access to care and publish an Access Monitoring Review Plan for certain services including primary care, physician specialty, behavioral health, obstetric services, and home health services. The plan is available for public comment on South Dakota Medicaid’s website.
The access plan contains a description of access to care for South Dakota Medicaid recipients and establishes a baseline of metrics to be used for evaluating access in accordance with 42 CFR 447.203. Comments may be made by e-mail to mailto:DSS.MEDICAID@state.sd.us. Comments will also be accepted by mail or phone.
