The South Dakota Healthcare Solutions Coalition recently met and shared updates related to progress that has been achieved toward implementation of the federal government Medicaid policy that allows payment at 100% FMAP for health care services for certain Indian Health Service (IHS) patients, provided at non-IHS facilities.
In January 2017, the Coalition changed its focus toward implementation of the federal policy change and formed “subgroups” which have held several meetings to work through the details of how to possibly implement the new policy. The Shared Savings Subgroup, working from a model developed in Wyoming, created Care Coordination agreements which have recently been signed by IHS and the Avera, Regional and Sanford health systems and will be administered by the State. Additional provider agreements are under development.
A two-page summary of the Coalition’s work can be reviewed here.
