The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has developed a fact sheet outlining proposed short-term, limited duration health plans proposed by the Departments of Health & Human Services, Labor and the Treasury. The proposed rule is intended to increase competition, choice and access to lower-cost health care options for consumers.
The proposed rule would allow consumers to buy plans providing coverage for any period of time less than 12 months, rather than the current maximum period of less than three months. If finalized, it will provide additional options to consumers who cannot afford to pay the costs of soaring health care premiums or do not have access to healthcare choices that meet their needs under current law.
