The House this week voted 379-1 to pass H.R. 2345 (115), a bill that aims to overhaul the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
The legislation would require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) evaluate and report on the feasibility of establishing a new three-digit dialing code, similar to 9-1-1 or 4-1-1, that people could use to be connected with a mental health crisis and suicide prevention hotline.
Currently, those in need of help can call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK or connect with the the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741.
