CMS has finalized new opioid-related policies for Medicare Part D sponsors to follow starting on January 1, 2019. CMS will be hosting a webinar Thursday, December 27th, from 1:00pm – 2pm EST.
This webinar will provide personalized training session/discussion on the improved safety edits when opioid prescriptions are dispensed at the pharmacy, as well as drug management programs for patients determined to be at-risk for misuse or abuse of opioids or other frequently abused drugs. There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers.

CMS has posted tip sheets and other resources to help increase awareness of the new policies among stakeholders. Three sets of outreach materials designed for physician, pharmacist, and beneficiary audiences are available on the CMS website for download. Health plans and other stakeholders can also use content from these documents to develop proper messaging for their own outreach materials.
