Bill Hearing Update:

HB 1099      provide for the designation of a caregiver to receive information regarding residents of treatment facilities.

Action was deferred until March 4, as the prime sponsor was ill.

HB 1180 *     revise certain provisions regarding the collection and storage of sexual assault kit evidence.

Action was deferred until March 4th as the prime sponsor was ill.

HB 1055      require parental notification and agreement before the institution of an order to withhold resuscitation from certain patients. This is the Simmons Law from Kansas and the goal of the bill is to prevent a physician from ordering a do not resuscitate (DNR) without a parent’s consent . This bill won’t change the hospital operating procedures and according to the SD Medical Association is basically the physician’s code of conduct. The biggest opposition to this bill was amended out as the amendment was simply removed the word “injury” from the bill. The bill was passed out of Committee as amended.

HB 1250 *     revise certain provisions regarding marriage and family therapists.This bill is scheduled for a hearing on March 4th.

HB 1190 *     provide for certain reporting requirements related to abortions.This bill is scheduled for a hearing on March 4th.​
