Violet Tschetter Memorial Home to close by May 10

The Board of Directors for Violet Tschetter Memorial Home, Huron SD has notified the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) that the long-term care facility will close by May 10, 2019.

Currently, there are 36 individuals residing in the facility which has a staff of about 45 caregivers, support and operations personnel.

In a letter to the SD DOH, the board said that the facility was no longer able to sustain operations due to underfunding. The cost of resident care has greatly exceeded the state reimbursement under the state’s Medicaid program that many of its residents relied on.
