Nursing Home 5-Star and Nursing Home Compare

CMS announced important changes to the 5-Star Quality Rating System and Nursing Home Compare.

Beginning October 23, nursing homes that meet certain criteria for abuse citations will be identified on Nursing Home Compare with a special icon. These homes will also have their health inspection star ratings capped at 2 stars, resulting in a cap at 4 stars on the overall star rating.

Other changes include a disclaimer on the Nursing Home Compare website for all Oregon nursing homes related to the Government Accountability Office’s April report, and the removal of 2 quality measures related to pain.

For more information, please refer to the Nursing Home Compare and 5-Star Quality Rating System memo QSO-20-02-NH and the Consumer Alert Memo QSO-20-01-NH.  Also, review the 5-Star Rating System Technical User Guide which includes updates at the beginning of the guide.
