Issues with Hospital Overall Star Ratings Preview Reports

Inpatient and outpatient prospective payment system (PPS) hospitals, inpatient psychiatric facilities and PPS-exempt cancer hospitals can preview their data for the January 2020 update to Hospital Compare now through Dec. 3 at the Secure Portal, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced recently. CMS followed this announcement noting issues in how the results were displayed had been identified and that they re-issued reports for hospitals. If hospitals previewed their results between Nov. 4-5, they should download their Star Ratings preview report again to view the corrected display of the results.

For hospitals participating in the inpatient and outpatient quality reporting programs, the data includes their overall hospital quality star ratings. CMS last updated the star ratings in February, when it also requested comments on proposed future changes to the methodology in response to stakeholder feedback.
