As of November 28, there will be trauma focused F-tags that surveyors will assess as part of Phase 3 implementation. It is crucial for facility staff to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma, emotional and behavioral effects of trauma, and to have an action plan of how to address their residents’ associated emotional and behavioral needs.
On Thursday, December 12th, SDAHO will host a full day workshop on trauma-informed care in Mitchell, SD. Presenter, Barbara Speedling will provide nursing home staff with a working understanding of trauma-informed care and assist homes in meeting federal requirements, while simultaneously improving residents’ overall quality of care by decreasing the likelihood of re-traumatization. Nursing home administrator and social work continuing education credits will be offered. This event will be no cost to South Dakota nursing home employees, due to CMS approving the use of civil monetary penalty (CMP) funds for this workshop. Thank you to FocusOne for sponsoring the lunch.
