Rural community hospitals and critical access hospitals are facing greater pressure to compete in an evolving healthcare delivery model and with limited financial resources.  Changing consumer preferences are generating more interest in retail-based care platforms, while aging rural markets are continuing to experience growing demand for hospital-based services. Global disease outbreaks like COVID-19 can disrupt the entire healthcare delivery model and require flexibility in building design and capital allocation. Faced with changing service line priorities, competitive and environmental disruption, and difficult facility investment decisions, it is more important than ever for hospitals to deploy capital strategically.

Nick Smith
