DSS Releases State Plan Amendment on Medication Assisted Treatment

The Department of Social Services (DSS) has released a State Plan Amendment (SPA) to provide assurances that South Dakota Medicaid covers and reimburses Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). South Dakota Medicaid already covers and reimburses MAT as a service and the SPA does not alter or change the State’s coverage or reimbursement of MAT.
The SPA adds page 29 to section 3.1, amends page 11 of Attachment 3.1-A, adds page 45 to Supplement to Attachment 3.1-A, and adds page 41 to Attachment 4.19-B.
The Department intends to make this SPA effective October 1, 2020 consistent with State Health Official letter issued by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services on December 30, 2020. The Department estimates there will be no fiscal impact in Federal Fiscal Year 2021 and Federal Fiscal Year 2022.
The public comment period for SPA SD 20-0003 is available for public comment until March 24, 2021. Comments may be made by contacting Matthew Ballard at Matthew.Ballard@state.sd.us or 605-773-3495.
A copy of the SPA is available on the DSS website
