South Dakota Board of Nursing Rule Update

The Department of Health (DOH) has proposed updated rules for the South Dakota Board of Nursing (SDBON). The rules update the applications for licensure for clinical nurse specialists and registered nurse anesthesiologists. They remove outdated language, provide consistency, and allow for the evaluation of educational competency for applicants who have completed equivalent requirements.

The rules also repeal disciplinary rules in accordance with HB 1014 and update nursing corporation rules to adjust application requirements for the approval, renewal, and denial of a certificate of registration for a healthcare corporation. Moreover, the rules provide clarity on the health professional assistance program by elaborating on the qualifications and duties of personnel, approval of programs, and the processes for enrollment, participation, monitoring, and reporting.

The full changes to the rules can be found here. A public hearing on the proposed rules will occur on 08/11/2021 with the deadline for public comment occurring on 08/02/2021. The August 11 hearing will take place at 9:00 AM CT in the Dakota Meeting Room of the Holiday Inn Express at 3821 West Avera Drive, Sioux Falls, SD 57108.
