October 7 | 11am – 12pm CST | Trauma-Informed Care for LTC | Presenter: Amy Siple

Trauma has become almost a universal experience. The effect of past trauma(s) can influence how we respond and connect to others and our environment. Long term care staff must become knowledgeable in a trauma informed care approach. A careful assessment, knowledge of triggers, and de-escalation techniques are essential. This presentation will address some ways we can prevent re-traumatization and support mental health well-being. Case studies will be utilized to promote active learning and self-reflection. October 7 | 1pm – 2pm, CST | Best Practices in Managing 340B Pharmacy | Presenter:  SunRx

The environment for 340B retail pharmacy is in a constant state of change, requiring eligible entities to be nimble and disciplined in the management of their program. Navigating the disruption created by Big Pharma, partnering with pharmacy chains, pharmacy independents, and pharmacy gateways require good strategy and strong partnerships with your TPA.

October 11 | 12pm – 1pm CST | Update on Infection Prevention in Hospital 2021 | Presenter: Nancy Ruzicka

This program will cover the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) infection control standards and antibiotic stewardship program.  Ms. Ruzicka will discuss common deficiencies in infection control and provide tips to ensure compliance. Attendees will learn about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) procedures for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing reusable medical devices, CMS worksheets on infection control, and COVID-19 worksheets. Deficiencies related to infection prevention are cited in 20% of the South Dakota critical access hospitals and hospitals over the last few years.

October 14 | 1pm – 2pm CT | E-eek!  OCR Wants Your Security Risk Assessment | Presenter: COPIC
The Office for Civil Rights requires HIPAA-covered entities to conduct and document a Security Risk Assessment. This program is a strategic introduction for clinical staff and administrators about the assessment process of the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of protected health information under their control. Performing this risk assessment is an important exercise which typically involves administrators, clinicians, IT/security specialists, and legal consultants. A template for an ambulatory practice risk assessment will be used as a road map. Continuing education: Nursing home administrators

October 21 | 11am – 12:30pm CT  | Marijuana in the Workplace – Drug Testing Policies | Presenter: Jo McGuire

Jo will describe the value a workplace drug and alcohol policy provides to the company as she takes the audience through each critical section of a basic policy, explaining why it matters, what questions they need to ask themselves, how they should use their policy to help create a culture of safety and what missteps to avoid as she shares stories of what challenges employers and managers face when things go very wrong.

Participants will have a clear understanding of the critical components of a sound policy that keeps employee needs in mind.

October 26 | 11am – 12pm CT | End-of-Life Care Series Part 2:  Loss, Grief & Bereavement | Presenter: Lores Vlaminck

This module addresses the challenging aspects of grief, loss, and bereavement of patients and families as well as the loss experiences of healthcare professionals. Continuing education: Nursing home administrators and Social workers
