HHS Extends Risk Adjustment for COVID-19 Telehealth, Telephone-only Services

In response to the ongoing pandemic and need to use telehealth and virtual care options, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will continue to include certain telehealth and telephone-only services in its risk adjustment program for qualified health plans in plan year 2022, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently announced.

Authorized by the Affordable Care Act, the program transfers funds from plans with relatively low-risk enrollees to plans with relatively high-risk enrollees to help stabilize premiums for non-grandfathered plans in the individual and small group markets.
