EMTALA Part 3 Series: Rules including On-Call Physicians

Hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals have had to comply with EMTALA regulations for over 35 years. Yet, there are an increasing number of investigations and escalating civil monetary penalties for non-compliance. This three-part series reviews the basic requirements of EMTALA, examines the most problem prone areas including adequacy of medical screening examinations and appropriate transfers; and recent deficiencies and civil monetary penalties nationwide.

Part Three Learning Objectives will review:

  • On-call physician rules including when the on-call physician must appear in the Emergency Department
  • Quality Improvement Organization program role with EMTALA
  • Office of Inspector General role and recent deficiencies and fines related to on-call physicians
Join presenter, Nancy Ruzicka on December 13 at 12pm CT as she concludes this series.
