National Nurse Practitioner Week is held annually to celebrate these exceptional health care providers and to remind lawmakers of the importance of removing outdated barriers to practice so nurse practitioners (NPs) will be allowed to practice to the full extent of their experience and education.
Each state’s efforts to secure an NP Week proclamation will be highlighted on the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) annual NP Week Proclamation Map. In 2024, states that receive proclamations signed by any elected official will be marked green on the map — or even better — filled with pictures of NPs who were present for the signing or an image of the proclamation itself. Congratulations to NPs in West Virginia for submitting the first proclamation of 2024, signed by Governor Jim Justice!
