FDA says shortage of empty IV bags expected to last through March

On December 4, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced empty IV bags have been added to the FDA’s Medical Device Shortages List.
The agency has indicated that the shortages are expected to last until March. This prolonged period of scarcity is attributed to a surge in demand for IV bags of all sizes, driven by various factors, including increased hospitalizations and healthcare needs.
The agency is closely monitoring the situation and is working with manufacturers to explore solutions to mitigate the impact of this shortage on patient care and treatment outcomes. Click here to view the Medical Device Shortages List.
