McKnight’s Senior Living recently posted an article listing the best states for professional caregivers. Three of the five most appealing states for direct caregivers to live in are in the Midwest, as outlined in the article. South Dakota did not make the top 5 best states for professional caregivers but is listed as a standout state for having the highest disposable income percentage at 12.74%, and competitive salaries, but with limited openings.

- disposable income percentage
- positions per capita
- total score out of 100
The state’s rounding out the top five are:
- Connecticut
- Tennessee
- Michigan
- Wisconsin
- Minnesota
