In a recent move to enhance transparency in healthcare pricing, the White House has issued an executive order instructing the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Labor, and Treasury to take immediate action to improve and increase enforcement of hospital and insurer price transparency. This directive aims to reinforce the Hospital Price Transparency and Transparency in Coverage regulations by ensuring that hospitals and insurers provide clearer and more accessible pricing information to the public.
The executive order specifically calls on these departments to “rapidly implement and enforce” the regulations, with a focus on actions to be taken within the next 90 days. One of the key areas of emphasis is the requirement for hospitals and insurers to disclose “actual prices,” rather than estimates, giving patients and consumers the accurate pricing information they need to make informed healthcare decisions.
In light of these evolving regulations, the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) wanted to highlight a recent virtual session with CorroHealth, where hospital price transparency was discussed in-depth. The presentation provided valuable insights into how hospitals and health systems can prepare for increased scrutiny and avoid potential compliance issues. With the updated 2025 requirements, it is crucial that health systems understand the full scope of what is expected and stay ahead of the regulatory changes.
