April 16th is National Healthcare Decisions Day

Every year on April 16, we promote National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) because, to quote Benjamin Franklin, “In this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes.” Get your taxes done by April 15 and review your healthcare wishes on April 16!

NHDD is a day to educate, encourage and empower healthcare providers and the public to discuss healthcare wishes and complete Advance Directives. LifeCircle SD is inviting all healthcare organizations to promote NHDD in your facilities. You can do an internal staff education or a public event in your lobby or cafeteria; do a local news story; write a newsletter article or anything else that helps promote the importance of advance care planning. The Conversation Project has many resources for you to use as you plan your event.

To promote NHDD, South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) teamed up with the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California (CCCC) to bring a zoominar entitled “AI for Advance Care Planning.” It will be held on April 16, 2025 from 2:00-3:30 pm CT/1:00-2:30 pm MT. This zoominar will focus on the uses of AI to facilitate advance care planning and goals of care conversations. Three innovative physicians will describe their work and the challenges associated with introducing machine intelligence into conversations that touch our most human features: vulnerability, frailty, fear, hope, mortality, and compassion.

Presentations and discussion by:
