Growing South Dakota’s Health Care Workforce Together

SDAHO is a proud supporter of the South Dakota Area Health Education Centers (SD AHEC) and recently participated in their informational luncheon on April 1, held at the University of South Dakota’s Sanford School of Medicine Health Science Center. This event brought key stakeholders together from across the state to focus on growing South Dakota’s workforce. South Dakota’s first AHEC center started in 1979 and today we have three centers covering all 66 counties. AHEC centers connect students to health care careers and in 2024 they engaged a total of 9,029 participants with their various programs. AHEC’s core initiatives include K-12 pipeline, community and public health and workforce development. SDAHO continues to address the workforce crisis in healthcare by supporting our AHEC centers and advocating at the state and federal level for this important funding.
