Grant Spotlight: April 2025

Have you heard about the new website Simpler.grants.gov. Simpler.Grants.gov is an open-source initiative led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to modernize Grants.gov, the federal portal for grant opportunities. The project aims to make the grant discovery and application process more user-friendly, transparent, and accessible. It is being developed with input from the public and is open to contributions from developers, designers, and community members.

Key Features and Goals

  • Modernized Search Experience: The platform introduces a simplified search interface with smarter algorithms to provide more relevant results based on user interests and filters.
  • Open-Source Development: All code and design decisions are made publicly available, allowing anyone to contribute or provide feedback. The project is hosted on GitHub, where developers can access the code and participate in its development.
  • User-Centered Design: The project is guided by research focusing on reducing friction for applicants and grant makers, providing contextual support, demystifying the grants process, and creating a cohesive identity for the platform.
  • Community Engagement: Simpler.Grants.gov involves a Co-Design group comprising of grant writers, nonprofit directors, and other stakeholders to ensure the platform meets the needs of its users.

How to Get Involved

Please note that Simpler.grants.gov is currently under development. However, you can already use the tool to identify funding opportunities. If you’re interested in applying for funding, you will still need to use Grants.gov to complete and submit your application.

While Simpler.Grants.gov is still in development, it represents a significant step toward improving the federal grant application process through transparency, collaboration, and user-centered design.
