Mount Marty University Establishes First Graduate Regulatory Science Program in the Region

Mount Marty University will launch the region’s first Graduate Regulatory Science Program. The 30-credit, fully online program will welcome its first cohort of students this fall. It will focus on training future regulatory leaders for the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries.

“This program is responsive to a critical workforce need at the interface of private industry and government regulations that are designed to safeguard public health,” said Mark Brown, Ph.D., professor and executive director, who oversaw the development of the program. “We were already blessed to have one of the industry’s internationally recognized experts, Dr. Aaron Harmon, on faculty in our Graduate Biotechnology Management Program. So when he approached us about developing a regulatory science program, we recognized we had an important opportunity to fill a critical need for regulatory professionals.”

Since the program is taught entirely by current industry professionals, students from science and business backgrounds benefit from the experience of seasoned veterans while preparing to take their place among the next generation of regulatory leaders.

The Chair of the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium, David Pearce, Ph.D., who is on faculty in Mount Marty’s Graduate Biotechnology Program, was also instrumental in developing the new regulatory science program. “Having well-trained regulatory experts in our region is particularly important in the approval of therapeutics for rare diseases, which often traverse unique regulatory pathways,” said Pearce.

Mount Marty’s new regulatory science program is just one of a growing suite of graduate-level health science programs focused on benefiting human life, providing access to life-saving healthcare and curbing global health disparities.
