The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) will officially remove the South Dakota Charge Compare website on July 1, 2025.
This online tool, developed through a partnership with the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA), offered information related to:
- Inpatient services
- Outpatient services
- Understanding hospital “charges”
The change comes after the passage of House Bill 1225 during the 2025 South Dakota Legislative Session. This legislation amends the state law that previously required SDAHO to maintain the website, repealing provisions related to the public reporting of hospital charge data.
SDAHO and the State of South Dakota were at the forefront of hospital price transparency when the original law created the website in the late 2000s. However, since then federal rules have mandated that hospitals post their own price transparency website, making SDAHO’s website redundant.
SDAHO remains committed to transparency, collaboration, and compliance with state and federal policy updates impacting healthcare organizations throughout South Dakota.
