Gov. Rhoden appoints Nick Fosness to fill District 1 House Seat

On Tuesday, Governor Larry Rhoden announced the appointment of Nick Fosness of Britton to the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 1. Fosness fills the seat vacated by Christopher Reder of rural Warner, who resigned on May 2, just five months into his first term.

Fosness currently serves as chief executive officer of Avera Marshall County Healthcare Center and is the incoming president of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO). He brings more than 26 years of healthcare leadership experience and previously served nine years on the Britton-Hecla School Board.

A lifelong South Dakotan, Fosness and his wife have been married for 28 years and have raised four children. The family lived in Pierre from 2004 to 2012 before moving to Britton. “We are rural by choice,” he shared. “We love our careers, we love where we live.”

Fosness says he is eager to represent his district with a balanced perspective and a commitment to listening to all sides of the conversation.
