September is National Suicide Prevention Month: resources and special dates

Each September, communities across the nation come together to recognize National Suicide Prevention Month—a time dedicated to raising awareness, sharing resources, and supporting those impacted by suicide.

Throughout the month, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members unite to highlight the importance of suicide prevention. The goal is simple yet powerful: to remind one another that we can all play a role in saving lives.

Within the month, two key observances take place:

  • World Suicide Prevention Day – September 10
This global day of recognition is an opportunity to honor those we have lost, support those who have been impacted, and focus on connecting individuals to the care they need.
  • National Suicide Prevention Week – September 8–14, 2025
Surrounding World Suicide Prevention Day, this week encourages conversations, education, and the promotion of vital resources to ensure no one feels alone in their struggles.

Each year, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and countless mental health organizations across the country work tirelessly to provide support and spread awareness. The message is clear: help is available, hope is real, and healing is possible.
