The Madison Daily Leader’s Wren Murphy shared news that Madison Regional Health System (MRHS) will celebrate 10 years this December.
In October 2015, MRHS opened its doors to patients, a celebratory moment after years of planning.
The plan was first announced in December 2012, when the health care system, then called Madison Community Hospital, released information on a planned facility, according to Daily Leader archives. In January 2013, Ray and Marlys Schultz transferred land on the south edge of Madison to the hospital, with the city later annexing it to allow for the construction of the hospital.
Over 100 people gathered by a soybean field on the southern edge of Madison in September 2013 for the groundbreaking, where community members, lenders, hospital administrators and staff gathered to celebrate.
The project was delayed by wet fall and frigid winter weather, moving the timeline from early 2015 to summer 2015 and finally October 2015, when it To opened its doors.
