Strengthening pressure injury programs across the care continuum

Pressure injuries—whether developed in-house or worsening under care—pose significant risk for healthcare providers across all settings. From hospitals to long-term care, these events can lead to regulatory scrutiny, financial penalties, and potential litigation. Just as importantly, they impact patient and resident outcomes in meaningful ways.

Regardless of care setting, providers are expected to demonstrate that pressure injuries were clinically unavoidable when they occur. Without strong assessment, documentation, and oversight processes, this can be a difficult standard to meet.

SDAHO will host a virtual session on Thursday, April 2, from 12:00–1:00 PM CST, featuring board-certified wound specialist and President of Senior Providers Resource, Jeri Lundgren.

This session is designed to help healthcare professionals strengthen their pressure injury prevention and management programs while reducing regulatory and legal risk. Attendees will gain practical insights into common breakdowns in care processes that often lead to citations, survey findings, or liability concerns.

A key focus will be on improving assessment accuracy and documentation practices, ensuring care teams can clearly support clinical decision-making. Participants will also explore how to effectively utilize wound care nurses or specialists to provide program oversight, guide interventions, and promote consistency across teams.

Participants will leave better prepared to:

  • Identify and correct common assessment and documentation errors
  • Strengthen interdisciplinary approaches to pressure injury prevention
  • Leverage wound care expertise to enhance program oversight
  • Align practices with regulatory and quality expectations across care settings

By building a more consistent and proactive approach, organizations can reduce risk, improve outcomes, and reinforce their commitment to high-quality care—no matter where that care is delivered.
