SDAHO Nurse Leadership Program advances to session 7: human resources and legal aspects of management

The SDAHO Nurse Leadership Program continues to build momentum as participants prepare to enter session seven, Human Resources: Legal Aspects of Management. This session will provide nurse leaders with valuable insight into employment law, workforce management, regulatory compliance, and the legal responsibilities that accompany leadership roles in healthcare organizations.

Throughout the program, participants have engaged in a diverse range of educational experiences designed to strengthen leadership knowledge and skills. Sessions to date have included Principles of Healthcare Finance, a recap of the 2026 Legislative Session, the Post Acute Partners in Care Conference, Nursing Inquiry (Evidence-Based Practice, Research, and Quality Assurance), a review of the AONL Nurse Leader Core Competencies, and overview of the South Dakota Board of Nursing and Communication, and Crucial Conversations.

Some valuable concepts shared by participants include:

  • “I’ve gained a better understanding of evaluating a budget spreadsheet.”
  • “…learning more about different models for EBP.”
  • “The idea of leader competencies. Hadn’t thought of that before but makes sense.”
  • “I really enjoyed hearing from the nurses serving as state representative and senator.”
  • “So many great tips for improving communication with Crucial Conversations! Loved it!”
Beyond the educational content, the Nurse Leadership Program offers tremendous value through professional growth and development. Participants gain a deeper understanding of healthcare leadership, identify opportunities for improvement and innovation within their organizations, and build meaningful connections with nurse leaders from across the state. The program’s collaborative environment encourages networking, knowledge sharing, and the development of lasting professional relationships that extend well beyond the classroom.

As session seven approaches, participants continue to strengthen the skills and confidence needed to lead effectively in today’s evolving healthcare environment, further advancing the future of nursing leadership across South Dakota.
