New federal funding opportunity supports apprenticeship programs

Consider exploring new financial incentives designed to support workforce development and training through Registered Apprenticeship programs.

The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) has announced a new funding opportunity that provides eligible apprenticeship program sponsors with direct incentive payments of up to $6,000 per apprentice. The initiative is designed to help employers strengthen workforce recruitment, training and retention in high-demand industries.

Through the Pay-for-Performance Incentive Payments Program, eligible Registered Apprenticeship sponsors can receive financial incentives as apprentices reach specific training and retention milestones. Funding opportunities include occupations in information technology, advanced manufacturing, telecommunications and other priority industries.

What Members Should Know

  • Financial Incentives: Eligible programs may qualify for payments ranging from $3,500 to $6,000 per apprentice, depending on the industry, occupation and program requirements.
  • Workforce Development: Incentives are designed to help offset the costs associated with recruiting, training and retaining skilled employees.
  • Application Assistance: South Dakota’s Start Today SD apprenticeship team can help employers explore eligible occupations, review program requirements and identify potential funding opportunities.

Health care organizations interested in developing or expanding apprenticeship programs are encouraged to explore these resources. Eligibility varies by funding program and occupation, and not all health care apprenticeships will qualify for the federal incentive payments.
