More than 200 health groups from across the country signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urging the Senate to pass their bipartisan opioid legislation as soon as possible.
McConnell’s office said the Senate would likely vote this week on the bill. The House passed another package of opioid measures in June, and the two sets of bills would need to be reconciled before becoming law.
The Senate package includes measures that would target the inflow of synthetic drugs, support research into non-addictive pain medications and expand programs intended to prevent and treat opioid use disorders.
