FDA to hold public meeting on drug shortages

The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) will hold a public meeting on Nov. 27 to discuss the underlying causes of drug shortages and offer an opportunity for stakeholders to provide ideas for resolutions.

The meeting follows a congressional request that the FDA examine these topics and develop a report to Congress that includes recommendations the FDA or other federal agencies could implement to end drug shortages.

Discussion topics are outlined in the meeting notice and include questions on adverse consequences of drug shortages, underlying systemic causes and drivers, and policies and strategies that may help to prevent or mitigate shortages. The FDA will accept comments through Jan. 2, 2019.
