The House and the Senate passed the extensions late during the last session, but in different bills and they were never reconciled in conference to be sent to the President’s desk for signature. In December, the Senate tucked the extenders into its continuing resolutions that’s been held up by the fight over funding for the border wall.
On January 8th, the House passed H.R. 259 (116), which includes a nearly 3-month extension of spousal impoverishment rules to let married couples protect certain assets while seeking Medicaid coverage for home and community-based services. It also includes $112 million for a roughly 3-month extension of the Money Follows the Person demonstration program that helps state Medicaid programs transition older adults and people with chronic illnesses back into their communities.
