COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Extended

​United States Department of Health and Human Services Secretary, Alex Azar, announced via Twitter on October 2 that he renewed the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration effective October 23, 2020. The public health emergency (PHE) declaration must be renewed every 30 days. This is the third time Azar has renewed the PHE declaration.The PHE will now extend to January 21, 2021.

The extension of the PHE means that Medicaid provisions tied to 1135 waivers granted under the PHE will continue through January 21, 2021. A full list of South Dakota Medicaid flexibilities granted under the PHE are available here.
