In celebration of this week being Healthcare Quality Week, SDAHO congratulates the 42 South Dakota hospitals for completing the 3.5-year Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) contract. The HIIN contract concluded March 31, 2020. We celebrate all quality leaders and thank them for supporting the improvement efforts that occurred in each hospital. As a result of this dedication and effort, participating hospitals have avoided over 650 harm events for South Dakota patients and have saved almost $1.4 million. This meant South Dakotans could spend more time at home with their loved ones due to the reduction of overall patient harm and 30-day hospital readmissions.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the next round of hospital quality improvement work awardees on September 18, 2020.Ā This work will be completed under the Hospital Quality Improvement Contractors (HQIC) statement of work. The Compass Network was one of only nine HQIC Awardees and is lead by the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative (IHC) with the collective partner organizations of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO), Kansas Healthcare Collaborative, Mississippi Hospital Association, and the Iowa Hospital Association.
SDAHO continues to actively recruit hospitals to participate in the next scope of hospital quality improvement, which will continue efforts to improve patient safety and care transitions. SDAHO is excited to announce as of October 14, 2020, we met our contract goal of 41 hospitals and the Compass Network’s recruitment goal has been met at 100% participation. These goals were met in record time and displays the commitment to quality by our network of hospitals. While we are 100% recruited, SDAHO is still accepting hospitals into the Compass Network.
We are thrilled to continue our partnerships with previous hospitals and areĀ excitedĀ to have several new hospitals in the South Dakota Compass Network.
