CMS Releases Medicaid and CHIP Scorecard

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released their annual update to the Medicaid and CHIP Scorecard. The scorecard is an effort to increase public transparency and accountability about Medicaid and CHIP’s administration and outcomes. The scorecard is made up of three pillars measuring state health system performance, state accountability, and federal accountability. This year’s update of the scorecard includes several new features including the ability to find a measure and new filtering and sorting options. The release also updates the Medicaid.gov State Profiles with a new quality of care section. The scorecard also identifies per capita spending across all states for the first time.

South Dakota was one of 17 states recognized for a high level of data usability for Medicaid per capita expenditures. South Dakota voluntarily reported 52% of Child Quality Measures and 12.5% of Adult Quality Measures on the Scorecard.

The Medicaid and CHIP Scorecard and South Dakota’s State Profile are both available on the Medicaid website.
