DSS Announces New Partner for Pre-Admission and Resident Review (PASRR)

The State of South Dakota – Department of Social Services (DSS), Division of Medical Services has selected a new partner, Maximus, for the fulfillment of Pre-admission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR) processes. PASRR-related services currently performed by South Dakota-based entities are scheduled to transition to Maximus. On October 16, 2023, the company will begin ongoing review of PASRR positive Level I screens for all individuals who are applying to or residing in Medicaid-certified nursing facilities and completion of Level II evaluations for individuals confirmed or suspected to have mental illness. As we move toward this launch date, some important goals for this change include the streamlining of processes and providing additional clarity for stakeholders on the necessary documentation for PASRR Level I submissions.
