Go Teal for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month!

November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time to heighten awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and show support for the more than 6.2 million Americans living with it.

Many are choosing to wear the color “teal” to bring awareness to this disease that impacts far too many. Teal is the Alzheimer’s Awareness color of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA). AFA uses teal because it has been shown in color psychology studies to be a calming color. This is helpful when designing and decorating spaces and events to be welcoming and comforting to those living with Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disorder, and not a normal part of aging. The number of Americans with Alzheimer’s is projected to surpass 14 million by 2060.

Living a healthy lifestyle becomes even more important for better aging. The things we do to keep body and heart healthy, nutritious diet, physical activity, and social connections can help promote bring health and wellness. There are 10 steps for heathy aging provided by the AFA.
