Today’s wraps the fourth week of our 100th Legislative session. As expected, the pace picked up, as Wednesday February 5 was the last day for individual bills and resolutions to be filed. There have been 535 pieces of legislation filed this session, far from the record number that was expected. SDAHO is actively following 55 pieces of legislation
One measure we feel is especially important, SB 154 a measure to prohibit pharmaceutical manufacturers and wholesale drug distributors from interfering in contracts between 340B entities and pharmacies and to provide a penalty therefor. SDAHO is bringing this bill forward to protect covered entities and their relationships with contract pharmacies from Pharma. The prime sponsor is Senator Tim Reed from Brookings, with its first committee hearing date not yet set, but it has been referred to Senate Health and Human Services.
There are several bills filed this week that the advocacy team is monitoring a few, include:
- HB 1061 – prohibits a health care provider from restricting or denying a parent or guardian’s access to certain medical records and other health information of a minor.
- HB 1097 – establish and modify provisions for the temporary training of non-resident physicians.
- HB 1111 – make an appropriation for grants to support the purchase of telehealth kiosks.
- SB 19 – repeal the expiration date for the 911 emergency surcharge increase.
As we look at week five of the 2025 legislative session, we expect more health care specific bills to be scheduled for hearing. Anyone interested in listening to the live or archived audio of committee hearings from this year’s session, it can be found at sd.net.
The SDAHO Advocacy team will be in Pierre for the entire run of the 2025 legislative session. To stay connected with healthcare related legislation, follow our Bill Tracker here.
