Overview:
Part II: Overview of the regulatory expectations for person-centered, trauma-informed care planning
The revised Federal regulations for Trauma-Informed Care and Behavioral Health Services challenge long-term care facilities to ensure that they are fully prepared to care for residents with complex psychosocial needs. Beyond differentiating between dementia and psychiatric illness or addictions, the facility staff must have a working knowledge of the interventions and services necessary to achieve quality care for a rapidly changing population. This session will cover the regulatory expectations for the assessment and evaluation of the behavioral health needs of residents and staff.
Part 2 of this session will include assessment and evaluation of the behavioral health needs of residents and staff. Barbara will review the regulatory expectations, needed competencies and skills including knowledge and proper training and supervision for caring for residents with mental and psychosocial disorders. She will cover assessment considerations in behavioral health, such as impaired verbal communication, sleep pattern disturbance, and social isolation. Lastly, she’ll discuss ways to improve communication and ways to prevent abuse and neglect.
