The Office of Civil Rights is offering a webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 13, on new final rule guidance related to on its prohibiting of discrimination under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act.
The office issued the Final Rule, Nondiscrimination in Health Programs and Activities, effective July 19. It aims to advance equity and reduce health disparities by protecting some of the populations that have been most vulnerable to discrimination in the health care context. Those populations include disability, language access, sex, pregnancy and gender identity discrimination.
The Final Rule explains consumers’ rights under the law and provides covered entities important guidance about their obligations. The webinar will provide an outline of the rule and key steps facilities need to take to be in compliance.
The webinar, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13, from noon to 1 p.m. CDT, will be led by Lauren Weinzweig, a partner with Nelson Law Group in Phoenix. Weinzweig practices health care law with a special emphasis on health care transactions, regulatory compliance, professional board investigation defense and government investigations and administrative appeals.
