Several rural health care leaders are presenting a Sept. 19 webinar on improving health outcomes for seniors in rural communities despite the challenges of low average incomes, geographic isolation and a severe shortage of qualified healthcare providers.
John Feather, PhD, CEO of Grantmakers in Aging, Josh Hofmeyer, senior care officer for Avera eCARE and Heidi A. Schultz, program officer for Rural Healthcare of the Helmsley Charitable Trust, will discuss the role of philanthropy in improving the health of older persons in rural America and how local and regional funders can participate.
They’ll also discuss a telemedicine program supporting local staff in seven rural, Midwestern states that supports optimal healing and wellness for older adults by focusing on proactive medical care to avoid unnecessary transfers, hospitalizations and readmissions.
The webinar, which runs 1–2 p.m. CDT, noon–1 p.m. MDT, is sponsored by the John A. Hartford Foundation and AARP Foundation and co-sponsored by The Helmsley Charitable Trust and Grantmakers in Health. Click here to register.
