Council on Public Policy holds initial meeting

The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organization (SDAHO) Council on Public Policy met last week in conjunction with the beginning of the 93rd Session of the South Dakota Legislature.  The Council is tasked with reviewing and discussing advocacy on a wide range of state and federal health care issues.

During the session, the SDAHO advocacy team of Kim Gillan, Scott Duke and Gil Johnson will work closely with the systems advocacy group including: Deb Fischer Clemens, Avera Health; Corey Brown, Sanford Health; Mike Diedrich, Regional Health; and their respective contract lobbyists. Corey Brown formerly served as a South Dakota state senator.

The Council reviewed a total of 24 legislative issues during the meeting. Of these, 12 bills had been introduced and the remaining 12 issues are still in discussion. The Council recommended positions on the 12 legislative bills, which can be viewed on the SDAHO website at the “Bill Monitor” tab.
