The first legislative coffee of the season was held in Sioux Falls on Feb. 2 featuring Rep. Steven Haugaard from District 10, Rep. Larry Zikmund and Rep. Tom Holmes from District 14, Rep. Dan Ahlers from District 25 and Sen. Deb Soholt from District 14.
A few health care bills were noted during the event, including HB 1274 (increases the tobacco tax and changes allocation of collected funds); HB 1319 (interstate compact for professional licensure); and HB 1250 (raises the age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21).
The two-hour event allowed time for questions on roughly 25 bills, with a number of other bills left untouched because of the time limit.
Two more legislative coffees will be held in Sioux Falls in the coming weeks: Feb. 10 (Districts 9, 13 and 15) and Feb. 24 (Districts 6, 11 and 12).
The event was sponsored by the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce and was moderated by the League of Women Voters.
