SD Medicaid reminder: Use correct codes or claims may be denied

South Dakota Medicaid Services issued a reminder to providers about the importance of using the right taxonomy codes on claim forms – or face the possibility of denied claims.

The reminder ties back to April 9th, 2018 communication from the state Medicaid office asking providers to ensure the taxonomy code on the enrollment record is the same one used on claims. Unless South Dakota Medicaid requires differentiating taxonomy codes for different services, only one taxonomy code for an individual practitioner should be used.

Providers will see claim denials if taxonomy codes are not populated or fail to match the enrollment record.
