Farm bill expires with no new legislation in place

The 2014 farm bill expired at midnight Sept. 30 with Congress nowhere near a compromise needed to pass the new law, H.R. 2.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue offered assurances that critical features of ag and food policy will continue even without a new bill. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will continue to flow to recipients and the farm safety net will remain in place for now.
